While
some orthopaedic practices specialize in one or two
sub-specialties, all the physicians at Orthopaedic
Specialists have expertise in all sub-specialty areas
of orthopaedic medicine.
Orthopaedic
Specialists has been serving the community of Las Vegas for
nearly 25 years. Donald R. Mackay, M.D. and John R. Thompson,
M.D. founded Orthopaedic Specialists in 1979, and their practice
has literally grown with Las Vegas. The Orthopaedic Specialists
practice is now six specialists strong and is considered a
leader in the local medical community, earning many referrals
from physicians and patients alike.
Orthopaedics is the medical specialty devoted
to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention
of injuries and diseases of the body’s musculoskeletal
system. This complex system includes bones, joints, ligaments,
tendons, muscles and nerves and allows one to move, work and
be active. Once devoted to the care of children with spine
and limb deformities, orthopaedics now cares for patients
of all ages, from newborns with club feet to young athletes
requiring arthroscopic surgery to older people with arthritis.
Anyone can break a bone.
Orthopaedic
surgery has evolved into sub-specialty areas including spine,
hand, foot and ankle, sports medicine, pediatric orthopaedics
and joint reconstruction surgery. All of Orthopaedic
Specialists’ physicians are certified by the
National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board
of Orthopaedic Surgery. Not only are all of the physicians
at Orthopaedic Specialists board certified, but most have
completed additional fellowship training years in various
sub-specialties of orthopaedic surgery.
